In September 2024, I visited a ‘travelling’ opera in Venice with a friend. For me, a totally new experience in Venice. The concept: as spectators, you ‘travel’ with the show to a different hall each time for the next act. All this took place in a beautiful Venetian palace: the Palazzo Barbarigo Minotto, next to Palazzo Corner on the Grand Canal. It is located in the San Marco district.
La Traviata
All this is happening under the name Musica a Palazzo and we listened and watched La Traviata. It was always high on my list, as the very first performance of this opera ever took place in Venice, at the Teatro La Fenice. I did not know the story, I thought, and was pleasantly surprised to recognise the parallels with one of my favourite films Moulin Rouge.
This form of opera was a treat and if you visit Venice, you definitely want to experience it. You can choose from La Traviata, The Barber of Seville and Rigoletto.
