The Museo Archeologico in Venice has a collection sculptures on display from Greek, Greek-Roman and Roman origine. A large part of the collection was gathered by the family Grimani in the 16th century. <\/strong><\/p>\n

Willem de M\u00e9rode was a great fan of sculptures. His poems show his love for male busts and torso’s. I can only suspect De M\u00e9rode must have admired the beautiful and extensive collection of Grimani on one of his trips to Venice. Unfortunately I cannot reconstruct this. Anyway, he took home a bust of Antinous<\/a> during his Italy-trip and he wrote a poem (Dutch)<\/a> about Antinous.<\/p>\n

As for me, the poem ‘Het museum (Brussel II) illustrates strikingly how he admired scultures.<\/p>\n

The Museo Archeologico is a part of the Correr museum with the Bibliotheca Marciana, the Libreria Sansoviana en the Museo del risorgimento. With one ticket you get admittance to an enormous collections of materials that illustrate the history of Venice.<\/p>\n
